Лишь снова удивиться, как эта музыка на протяжении стольких веков остаётся столь пронзительно современной и способной вызвать слёзы даже у далёких от музыки людей. Дидона плачет о возлюбленном муже, покидающем её ради долга, и бросается на меч, чем и заканчивается опера. Также это один из самых известных примеров т.н. basso ostinato, когда нисходящая линия баса повторяется снова и снова без изменений, почти как современные loops, только гораздо, гораздо медленнее.
